FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Redwood Technology Consortium Welcomes New Board Members

In the past month, Redwood Technology Consortium has welcomed two new members to its volunteer board of directors — Robert Beckerdite and Sean Connors.

The addition of Connors and Beckerdite to the RTC board coincided with the retirement of both Bob Morse, of Morse Media, and Michael Kraft, of the North Coast Small Business Development Center.

Beckerdite, a Southern Humboldt native, discovered his interest in computers while in the Marine Corps in his late teens. After completing his time in the Marines, Beckerdite returned home and began working for the California Superior Court of Humboldt County, and focusing on Information Technology. Beckerdite moved to Denver, Colo., in 1999, to pursue a job with a large telecommunications company, and then took a leadership role with an electrical engineering research and development company. He returned to Humboldt County in 2008, after realizing he would find greater personal satisfaction in supporting his community and local arts movements. Today, he works for Accellent, a medical device manufacturer, and runs Beckerdite Consulting.

Connors moved to Humboldt County with his wife in 2001. A student of religious studies and Native American land management issues at UC Santa Barbara, Connors’ interest in science, religion and the region, steered him toward Humboldt. He shifted his focus toward IT, starting a virtual office that serviced clients from all over the country. Connors’ company, Web Merchant Services, is an e-commerce solutions provider, which enhances the local economy by bringing in money from out of the area.

Among other goals, Redwood Technology Consortium works to ensure that telecommunications are robust, accessible, affordable and ubiquitous, and promote effective use of technology in local businesses. Membership information can be found at www.redwoodtech.org .

Web Merchant Services Acquires iChapter Network Web Technology and Assets

WMS has acquired the iChapter network reservation and membership management software, technology and server assets for an undisclosed amount. The future of iChapter is secure with WMS.

Effective Sep 1st, 2010 - Web Merchant Services (WMS) has
acquired the iChapter network reservation and membership management software,
technology and server assets for an undisclosed amount. iChapter network has
struggled over the last few years trying to cover the costs of its upgraded
infrastructure and was on the verge of closing its doors. Over 40 APICS (the
Association for Operations Management) chapters would be affected. WMS and
iChapter network reached an agreement in August and officially closed the sale
on Aug 31st, 2010.

WMS will be making some adjustments to annual chapter fee structures and will
be negotiating with the chapters involved over the next several months.
Services and support will not change. iChapter network
technical staff will support WMS during the transition period lasting up to one
year as part of the agreement.

A new version of the APICS template is also being released (Rel 5.0) that now
supports promotional codes, some improvements on architecture, and other feature
enhancements. Promotional Codes allow chapters to use a different 6 - 8
character codes for each event that allows tracking the information marketing
source of the reservation and allows the chapter to invite other professional
non-profits, such as ISM, to attend APICS meetings at member rates. Other minor
feature enhancements include displaying the next upcoming event on the home page
and a back office feature for the chapter presidents to make monthly
announcements on the home page (President's Message).

WMS is a web development company located in Eureka, CA with data center
resources in Sacramento, CA. APICS Chapters, iChapter and WMS have worked
together for over a decade. WMS has the infrastructure and support capacity to
support the iChapter network more efficiently and had a very strong interest in
continuing to provide the services so many APICS chapters had become accustomed.
The future of iChapter is also secure with WMS, which already has plans for the
next version of iChapter including many significant enhancements to the service
in the years to come.

New Support System

WMS expands it's support system.

WMS is expanding.

The large success of supporting ProdcutCart sites and creating ProductCart addons, along with the pending acquisition of iChapter, an event management and registration system for APICS chapters, and our recent migration to a new data center has kept us over the top busy.

So busy that we've had to bring on new tools to help our team manage it all. One of these new tools is our new ticket tracking system for support and sales.

This new system will dramatically facilitate our efficiency on tracking support issues, project requests, and requests for quote requests.

As we phase into this, we'll be rerouting all emails back through our ticket system, so some emails you might have sent to a personal email address at WMS will not start coming back through a department address such as Support@WMS or Sales@WMS. Please continue to use these address complete with the ticket numbers you will now see in your email subject lines.

Our new ticket system allows you to use email to create new tickets (for example, support@wmsmerchatservices.com) while coping other parties and/or attaching files, but also affords more advanced options if you crate an account at http://support.wmsmerchantservices.com.

We hope you like our new support system and the efficiency it will bring in our support of your business.
